Two years spent behind computers screens, posting on messages boards and doing required readings while on vacation with the family have finally paid off as the Distance Education Class of 2012 reported to Carlisle Barracks for their final resident course July 16.
After more than a year of learning together behind computer screens all over the world, more than 350 members of the Army War College Distance Education Class of 2013 came to Carlisle Barracks for the first of two resident courses June 18-29.
The two-week sessions allow students to participate in seminar group sessions, to attend lectures and work with classified material relevant to the course of instruction. Attendance at both scheduled resident courses of instruction is required for successful completion of the curriculum.
"The Future of U.S. Grand Strategy in an Age of Austerity: Challenges and Opportunities," is the topic explored by a diverse gathering of opinion leaders from the military, industry, think tanks, and academia during this two-day event.
The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center sponsors a monthly public lecture series, "Perspectives in Military History," which provides a historical dimension to the exercise of generalship, strategic leadership, and the war fighting institutions of land power.
