As we push further into the 21st century, the veterans who fought the Geat Wars of the last are dwindling in number. No matter where they served or what they fought for, they have stories to tell that still need to be heard. Recently, the few remaining men to serve at what is now Camp Zama, Japan, camp together to remember and to make their stories known.

USARJ officially launches tobacco policy

U.S. Army Japan officially enforced its tobacco policy Nov. 17, making Camp Zama and other Army installations in Japan free of tobacco use — with the exception of designated tobacco-use areas. With the slogan “USARJ kicks butts,” the purpose of the policy is to prevent second-hand smoke exposure. With the support of Public Health Command-Pacific, Medical Department Activity Japan, Army Wellness Center, Army Substance Abuse Program, and ...the Camp Zama community at large, the policy was promoted with two events. A “Quit Cold Turkey Trot” was held Nov. 8 and included students of Zama American High School. On Nov. 17 informational materials and other items were given out to community members followed by activities promoting tobacco-free living at the teen center. Nov. 17 was also the annual Great American Smoke Out, which encourages no tobacco use for the day. (U.S. Army photos by Lance D. Davis)

Camp Zama Exchange Seeking Volunteer Groups for Community Gift Wrap Program:

Camp Zama – Camp Zama volunteer groups looking to raise money—and spread some holiday cheer this season—can turn to the Camp Zama Exchange, which is seeking partners for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service’s annual community gift wrap program.

As part of the program, the Camp Zama Exchange sets up tables and provides supplies that community volunteer groups can use to wrap gifts during the busy ho...liday shopping season in exchange for donations.

“The Exchange’s community gift wrap program helps military families make the most of the hectic holiday season,” said Camp Zama Exchange General Manager Brian Read. “They can check items off their gift lists and get those presents wrapped in just one stop. As an added bonus, Camp Zama community groups get a chance to raise money for their worthy causes.”

Interested organizations can contact the Camp Zama Exchange at DSN: 263-3775; 1-214-261-2058 for information on scheduling a time to participate in the community gift wrap program.
