Eagle Resolve 2011 begins in United Arab Emirates
By CENTCOM Public Affairs

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – U.S. Forces joined their United Arab Emirates hosts and Gulf Cooperation Council regional partners yesterday to begin the twelfth annual multilateral exercise Eagle Resolve.  The exercise will be conducted at various locations throughout the United Arab Emirates.

Eagle Resolve is a multinational event designed to support the Cooperative Defense Program.  This year’s scenarios will focus on: regional consequence management; chemical, biological and radiological nuclear-passive defense; medical countermeasures; and interdiction and border security.

Eagle Resolve demonstrates U.S. Central Command’s dedication to GCC regional partners and the combined efforts to sustain regional security and stability.

“Our participation in Eagle Resolve highlights our unrelenting commitment to the territorial integrity of our GCC partners,” said General James N. Mattis, USMC, Commander, U.S. CENTCOM. “Working together, our combined efforts are guided by the need to sustain regional security. Eagle Resolve will allow us to operate together as a team—it brings the U.S. forces an opportunity to learn from our Gulf partners and they from us in this regard, practicing how we will protect the region’s populations if threatened.”

Regularly scheduled exercises such as Eagle Resolve allow U.S. forces the opportunity to operate with, contribute to, and learn from their Gulf partners, all while promoting long-term peace in the region.

Eagle Resolve provides multilateral forces with the opportunity to increase proficiency, expand levels of cooperation, enhance maritime capabilities, promote long-term regional stability, and promote interoperability.  The exercise will involve approximately 300 U.S. military personnel from all services, along with U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy aircraft and ships.
