NAPLES, Italy – Four Romanian Master Chief Petty Officers attended a senior non-commissioned officer (NCO) training course at U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet headquarters in Naples, Aug. 13-16.
During the course, the group of Romanian master chiefs, which included Romanian Master Chief Petty Officer of the navy (MCPON) Dima Cristian Irinel, built partnerships between the Naples-area chiefs by learning from the U.S. Navy senior enlisted leaders.
“We’re doing a lot of good things in this region and they’re part of it,” said Master Chief Marco Ramirez, command master chief of U.S. 6th Fleet. “This course was designed to enhance leadership skills the influence of the senior enlisted NCOs and the impact that they have within their Navy.”
The Romanian sailors also attended briefings and met with senior enlisted leaders throughout the command to strengthen the common bonds between nations.
“One of the things they went through is how the U.S. Navy trains our chiefs all the way through master chief,” said Lt. Cmdr. Robert McGregor, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet regional engagement officer. “Their interaction with our master chiefs will allow them to learn about our NCOs best practices and implement them in their navy.”
The Romanian master chiefs said they look forward to having more of their sailors return to Naples as students for future courses and to experience what they did.
“I think that it would be good for the U.S. Navy to invite more Romanian master chiefs or officers to this course,” said Romanian MCPON Cristian Irinel. “I think it helps us better understand how to work together.”
U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts a full range of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation missions in concert with coalition, joint, interagency, and other parties in order to advance security and stability in Europe and Africa.
