Career Tasks

• Provide services to promote and maintain optimal mental health, manage mental and physical disorders and diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential mental health problems
• Work with individuals, families, groups and communities to assess mental health needs, develop diagnoses and plans and implement and evaluate nursing care
• Monitor patients undergoing detoxification from alcohol and drugs and assist in planning, providing and evaluating comprehensive mental health services and support
• Conduct and use nursing research to improve healthcare delivery
• Manage inpatient care units, provide case management and work with members in the deployed setting

Becoming a Direct Commission Officer

To ease your transition into the Air Force, you'll enter a five-week training regimen designed to educate you on the ways of both the military and military healthcare. You'll participate in physical conditioning five days a week, leadership training and classroom studies.
