Critical Care Nurse

Career Description

As an Air Force Critical Care Nurse, you'll face many challenges, some you've seen in the civilian world and some you'll only encounter in the military. Additionally, you'll be able to focus on practicing more medicine day to day than you ever imagined, and you could do it in locations around the world. And you'll be an officer with all the respect and privileges attached to rank and carry your seniority with you wherever you work.

Career Tasks

  • Manage complex critically ill and injured adults and children
  • Use state-of-the-art equipment on the ground and in the air and assist with transport of critically injured Airmen during a contingency
  • Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and basic life support (BLS) are required, while advanced education is encouraged throughout your career

Becoming a Direct Commission Officer

To ease your transition into the Air Force, you'll enter a five-week training regimen designed to educate you on the ways of both the military and military healthcare. You'll participate in physical conditioning five days a week, leadership training and classroom studies.
