Supreme Allied Commander Europe visits Hungary

BUDAPEST, Hungary — Supreme Allied Commander Europe Navy Adm. James Stavridis visited Hungary 7-8 June to congratulate the new leadership as they set forth on their new responsibilities, and to thank the people of Hungary for their armed forces contributions to missions all around the world.
In the course of the visit, Stavridis met with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Minister of Foreign Affairs Janos Martonyi, Minister of Defense Csaba Hende, and Chief of Defense Lt. Gen. Tibor Benko.
"Eleven years ago Hungary joined the Alliance and I remember that day well," said Stavridis. "Hungary is a strong NATO member and I congratulate you and thank the people of Hungary for providing considerable support and notable contributions to NATO missions.”
Stavridis praised the vital part the Hungarian government and the local community of Pápa play by hosting the NATO Strategic Airlift Fleet, and emphasised the appreciation for the Hungarian Armed Forces focus on training Afghan National Security Forces and integrating military and civilians working together in the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Baghlan, Afghanistan.
