176th Wing

The 176th Wing is based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, with an additional detachment at Eielson Air Force Base. The 176th Wing is one of the largest and most active wings in the entire Air National Guard. Our missions include Combat Search and Rescue, Tactical Airlift, Strategic Airlift, Air Control, Rescue Coordination – and those are just our operational missions! Supporting them are all the highly trained men and women -- pilots, navigators, mechanics, engineers, electricians, administrative support personnel, network programmers, air controllers, medical technicians, chaplains, photojournalists, firefighters and many, many others -- who make it all possible.

As an Integrated Avionics Specialist, you'll prepare aircraft for special missions like low altitude attack profiles, precision bombing, covert operations, and reconnaissance. In this highly technical career field, you may even perform as the aircraft Dedicated Crew Chief. As a Mobility Pilot, you'll master all aspects of advanced aviation and use those skills to fly C-130 Hercules aircraft, transporting everything from cargo to passengers to destinations all over the world. In this role, you'll perform navigation, in-flight refueling, and cargo and passenger delivery. You'll plan and prepare for missions; review mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; and brief your crew. The Air National Guard maintains hundreds of planes, helicopters and ground vehicles. Keeping them fully fueled and ready for immediate action is the job of the Fuels Specialist. Your responsibilities will include receiving, storing and tracking all petroleum products for use in Air Guard vehicles and aircraft. Before that C-130 rolls down the strip, the Air Transportation Specialist makes sure it's packed tight with everything the troops will need to complete missions. From food, water and medical supplies to Humvees and helicopters, you'll be responsible for securely packing cargo so that it can be loaded and transported safely and quickly. You'll even be responsible for checking in passengers and baggage when the cargo is actually military personnel.
