Every morning, Soldiers with 622nd Movement Control Detachment round up Afghan drivers so cargo can be delivered. The cargo each driver has ranges from food for the dining facility to mission critical equipment.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal course involves attending a 10-week pre-course held at Fort Lee, Va., followed by another 8 months of training at the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., but that's only if you go straight through. The attrition rate for aspiring EOD techs is high; a lot of students are held back and have to repeat some of the schooling, even then, not everyone makes it.

    Though the calendar read Sept. 20, Anniston Army Depot's Emergency Operations Center was caught in a time warp, propelled forward two weeks to the installation's upcoming Community Appreciation Day. Employees monitored radios and weather conditions, ensuring the safety of the depot workforce and their family members who were participating in the games and festivities about a mile away. As news of a simulated explosion reached the group, they reacted -- each using their training to respond to the crisis -- answering phone calls from concerned citizens, arranging for assistance from outside sources, communicating with those who needed to evacuate the area and helping those injured in the blast or by the ensuing chemical cloud. Thankfully, the explosion was part of an exercise aimed at testing the depot's emergency services, fire and law enforcement, safety, antiterrorism and emergency management procedures.

This means from this point on, the six Large-Medium Speed Roll-on Roll-off (LMSR) ships, will be on-station, returning periodically for their maintenance cycles every 30 to 36 months.

    WATERVLIET ARSENAL, N.Y. -- It is no secret that Watervliet builds the best cannons in the world, but what the Arsenal has been building with the local community lately may be just as strong as the steel used in gun tubes -- it's called relationships. The month of August is traditionally a slow period at the Arsenal because that is when a significant number of workers take leave during the annual shutdown of manufacturing operations. But for the Arsenal's emergency service teams, who provide 24-hour, seven-day-a-week protection to the Arsenal, there was no such thing as a shutdown.

A team of 25 food service specialists with the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division will vie to win the garrison military category of the 45th annual awards program. The Philip A. Connelly Awards Program is a competition that provides recognition, promotes professionalism and excellence throughout the Army food service corps.
