The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG 85) fires its MK45 5-inch lightweight gun during a live-fire exercise. McCampbell is part of the George Washington Carrier Strike Group, the U.S. Navy's only continuously forward-deployed carrier strike group, based out of Yokosuka, Japan, and is currently conducting a routine western Pacific patrol in support of regional security and stability of the vital Asia-Pacific region. Sailors assigned to the pallbearer detail walk up the brow of the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) while carrying the coffin of a former service member for an upcoming burial at sea. Wasp is currently preparing for a scheduled underway. The U.S. Navy has a 237-year heritage of defending freedom and projecting and protecting U.S. interests around the globe.
