Reserve MI Battalion Conducts Training Exercise

The 203rd Military Intelligence Battalion (MI BN), Military Intelligence Readiness Command, recently conducted a Combined Joint Captured Materiel Exploitation Center (CJCMEC) training exercise at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., to bring intelligence personnel together to learn skills necessary for the exploitation...gathering and analysis...of foreign materiel from a battlefield.

9th MSC announces Best Warriors of the Pacific

The U.S. Army Reserve's 9th Mission Support Command announced the winners of the 2011 Army Reserve-Pacific Best Warrior Competition in an awards ceremony here, today. Sgt. Gerald Manansala, an interior electrician for the 797th Engineer Company in Barrigada, Guam, and Spc. Jessica Storch, a medic with the 1984th U.S. Army Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska, were announced the 9th MSC's "best warriors," earning the titles of noncommissioned officer and Soldier of the year, respectively.

Supplying excellence, sustaining the force

Regardless of where they're fighting, operating or training, Soldiers require supplies to accomplish their mission. The Supply Excellence Award recognizes those who keep the Army moving by providing superior supply operations for the active Army, National Guard and Reserve components. The SEA program started in 1986 to highlight the critical role sustainers play in supporting the warfighter. The purpose is to increase the logistical readiness of all Army units; enforce the Command Supply Discipline Program; encourage the use of available resources; and provide a structure for recognition of group and individual initiatives.

'Green' buildings at Fort Bragg contribute to Army triple bottom line

In a time of declining defense budgets, "going green" makes economic sense, the U.S. Army Reserve Command's top civilian told business leaders March 30. The Army, along with the rest of the federal government, has embraced sustainability. Each new building the Army constructs over the next five years will be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council for leadership in energy and environmental design.

The Military Intelligence Readiness Command recently conducted the 2011 Best Warrior Competition to select a Soldier and an NCO to compete at the US Army Reserve Command Best Warrior Competition. The week-long event tested Soldiers' , skills, Warrior Tasks, and fitness. Spc. Mitchel Dolan, HHC, 378th MI BN, earned the title of 2011 MIRC Best Warrior Soldier and Sgt. Matthew Bledsoe, Det. 6, 3100 SIG, earned the title of 2011 MIRC Best Warrior NCO.

The Soldiers with the 373rd Military Intelligence Battalion participated in 3 weeks of traiing at Regional Training Center - West, Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif. The final days were convoy lanes training. In this particular scenario, a convoy experiences a simulated IED attack and one vehicle is damaged. The Soldiers in vehicle "Red 5" assist the vehicle with a tow while experiencing simulated indirect and sniper fire. All the Soldiers used their training to get through the convoy lane and return to the FOB safely.

Despite budget constraints and lack of funding, the Fort McPherson Tax Center (Bldg. 52) opened its doors Feb. 1 to applause. The applause and gratitude was for the free tax preparation the center offers active duty servicemembers, Reservists and National Guardsmen on active duty status, military retirees and their Families. Last year, the center's staff saved this section of the community an estimated $400,000, said Col. Deborah Grays, U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) commander.

Col Lonigro's tenure, he rapidly transitioned his Soldiers into an operational force by providing a continuum of service to the active Army and Joint organizations; the unit deployed the Army Reserve's largest Regional Computer Emergency Response Team to Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, as well as an augmentation to the US Special Operations Command and the Joint Communications Support Element. The 305th Military History Detachment is pre-sented with the Meritorious Unit Citation and Reserve Officer As-sociation Outstanding U.S. Army Reserve Small Unit Award dur-ing Family Day here Dec. 18. The 305th MHD is a subordinate unit of the 316th ESC which has deployed to multiple combat zones. The 305th MHD also received the Reserve Officer Association Outstanding U.S. Army Reserve Small Unit Award to recognize for their outstanding service throughout the years. The unit is also recognized for their deployment to Afghanistan from 2006 thru 2008 for producing the first historical documentation of Operation Enduring Freedom. Soldiers of the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command gather with Family at the T/Sgt. Vernon T. McGarity United States Army Reserve Cen-ter Dec. 18 for a holiday celebration. Ac-tivities were provided for children, and Soldiers and Family members enjoyed a luncheon after the unit's awards presenta-tions. Soldiers were recognized for out-standing performance during their re-quired two-week annual training held this year at Fort McCoy, Wis.

Local Army Reserve Soldiers from the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command took time to spread holiday cheer to those who had served before them. Soldiers visited H.J. Heinz III Veterans Administration Pro-gressive Care Center, handing out gift bags, Christmas cards made by local elementary students, t-shirts and hats to local veterans Dec. 16. This is the seventh year in a row that Army Reserve Soldiers have visited local VA facilities.
