On Oct. 13, the U.S. Navy celebrated its 237th Birthday, a day that wasn't officially recognized until 1972. In addition, this year also marks some of the most decisive Navy battles fought and won, including the 70th Anniversary of Guadalcanal, and the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Gen. John Allen, Commanding General for ISAF, was nominated by President Barack Obama as Commander, U.S. European Command and NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe while Gen. Joseph Dunford will be replacing Gen. Allen as Commanding General for ISAF.
