DYK: The 62 billion pieces of unsolicited US mail sent annually consumes more energy in production and disposal than 2.8 million cars.

Compost. Improve soil to hold more water; plants grow better. Grass clippings, food scraps & kitchen waste make good compost. Saves money.

In our archives: Fort Polk recognizes the sacrifices made by local community members nearly 70 years ago.

Tip: Conserve water. Run dishwasher only when full. Don't pre-rinse dishes. You'll save as much as 20 gallons of water per load.

Tip: Recycle old electronics. Avoid land/air/water pollution; capture & reuse hazardous substances like lead/chromium.

This past week was Pollution Prevention Week. What did you do to prevent pollution? Continue the practice throughout the year.

Since Oct 2010, USAG Grafenwoehr’s Net Zero waste program reduced the Army garrison’s municipal waste by 60 %.

An oldie but a goodie. The Army's partnership with a landowner to create a conservation easement is a win-win.

Tip: Take advantage of your company's telework policy. Reduce air pollution, traffic congestion & save money. No telework; share a ride.
