How the Hiring Process Works

Since the Air Force is the executive agent for the DoD Cyber Crime Center (DC3), its personnel offices often assist DC3 by reviewing resumes, evaluating candidates, and identifying the best qualified applicants. While we traditionally have used competitive procedures to fill our positions, we have flexibilities we may also use to hire qualified candidates in certain categories, such as veterans and those with expertise in information technology and cybersecurity.

When the competitive process is used and the best qualified applicants have been identified, DC3 management may or may not choose to hold interviews before determining the most qualified candidate.

An Air Force human resources specialist will then extend that individual a preliminary offer of employment. If the candidate accepts, he or she must complete security and other federal employment forms, and have his or her security background checks positively adjudicated.

Once the background checks are completed, the human resources specialist will extend a final offer. Once it is accepted, the individual can then report for duty. An applicant should expect that the hiring process will be considerably longer than that normally experienced in private industry.
