The Arkansas Aeroplex is a multi-modal transportation facility located in northeastern Arkansas. The Aeroplex is located in Blytheville, Arkansas on Interstate 55 between St. Louis and Memphis. The Arkansas Aeroplex resides on the grounds of the former Eaker Air Force Base. The base closed in 1992 and has re-opened as a general aviation/commercial airport and industrial park.

Bluegrass Station, once called the Lexington Signal Depot, almost fell victim to the military base closures of the 1980's, but the state agreed to take over its operation in 1994. Since then, the state has marketed the facility as a site for light industry.

Letterkenny Business was formerly part of the Letterkenny Army Depot. In 1995 the Federal Base Realignment and Closure Commission downsized the Army Depot. The community received 1200 acres of land, buildings, and utilities to be developed as a Business Park.

5   Link   England Industial Airpark and Community (formerly England AFB)
England Industrial Airpark and Community, located northwest of Alexandria, La. traces its beginnings back to 1939, when it served as an emergency airstrip for Esler Field, the regional airport serving the Central Louisiana area. However, as the possibility of war in Europe increased, the Army Air Corps leased the facility from the city of Alexandria. The airfield was named Alexandria Army Air Base.

6   Link   Fort Ord Reuse Authority
The Fort Ord Reuse Authority is responsible for the planning, financing, and implementation of the conversion of the former Fort Ord to civilian activities. The approved Base Reuse Plan calls for significant commercial economic development, supportive housing, visitor serving facilities, and related institutional activities to replace the contribution to the local economy of the 15,000 soldiers and thousands of civilian employees when Fort Ord was active. Nearly two-thirds of the former base will be preserved and maintained as habitat for endangered species and recreational open space.

The Miami County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) is the primary economic and community development organization for Miami County, Indiana. Miami County consists of several small communities and the county seat of Peru, Indiana. 11   Link   March Joint Powers Authority
Located within the western Riverside County region of Southern California, March Air Force Base (AFB) encompassed approximately 6,500 acres straddling Interstate 215 (Highway 395) just south of Highway 60. March AFB was first established as a military installation in 1918, and has operated almost continually since. In July, 1993, March AFB was selected to be realigned, and subsequently converted from an active duty base to a Reserve Base, effective April 1, 1996. The decision to realign March AFB resulted in approximately 4,400 acres of property and facilities being declared surplus and available for disposal actions, as well as joint use of the airfield.

The first major installation slated for closure on the list was 35-year-old Pease Air Force Base (AFB), New Hampshire, "primarily due to quality and availability of facilities, and because of excess capacity within the category" of Strategic Air Command (SAC) bomber bases. The Commission's recommendations were approved January 5, 1989, in accordance with the Base Closure and Realignment Act (Public Law 100-526).

The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor is a visionary plan to transform the former Military Ocean Terminal (MOTBY) into a vibrant, mixed-use waterfront community. PARC (the Plattsburgh Airbase Redevelopment Corp.) was created in 1995 to manage the redevelopment of the base, a 5,000-acre facility located adjacent to Lake Champlain. As the beneficiary of assets that included some of the finest aviation and multi-modal facilities in the United States, PARC spearheaded the economic resurgence of New York's Champlain Valley region. Over the past decade, more than 60 tenants in aerospace and rail transportation and in composites, market research, manufacturing, warehousing, high tech engineering, pharmaceuticals, health care, and varied other fields discovered the meaning behind our motto, "the PARC Advantage." Thirteen years after closure, the former base is home to businesses, nonprofits, residential neighborhoods, community college facilities, and the new international airport. Indeed, once reuse reaches completion, PARC will have placed over $100 million of ratables on local tax rolls.

In 1995 word reached the Lubbock community that Reese Air Force Base was on the Pentagon’s hit list for base closures. In spite of much opposition from community members and leaders alike, the base closure was announced for September 30, 1997. Thankfully, local officials had not been sitting idly by, they were prepared. The Lubbock Reese Redevelopment Committee (LRRC) was created in 1995, just two weeks after the base was recommended to be closed.
