US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command,

Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD

 

1. Program: Research Participation Program - Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE)

Requirements: Undergraduate, graduate and doctorate students. Enhances professional development in science, mathematics and engineering. 

General Information: Primary participating agencies at Aberdeen Proving Ground include US Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventative Medicine (USACHPPM), US Army Medical Research Institute and Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) and US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (USARDECOM).

Program Limitations: Most hiring occurs in the Spring of the year.

2. Program: Student Contract Program

Requirements: Student in a recognized educational program in an Institute of Higher Learning who remains in good standing and actively pursues a curriculum designed to lead to the granting of a recognized degree (at least 6 undergraduate credits a semester).

General Information: All activities at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD participate when temporary or intermittent services of students are indicated.

Program Limitations: Contracts for services of students made as funding permits.

Application Procedures: Requestor solicits names of potential student contractors directly from educational institution placement office via position announcement. Regulation, forms, etc. at https://edgenet.apgea.army.mil click on Command Information and Notices, Personnel and Staffing Information and select RDECOM Student Contracting Program. 

Local Program Point of Contact (POC): Team specific as identified in position announcement.

 

3. Program: Student Education Employment Program (Comprised of two components: Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP))

Requirements: Students may be appointed if they are pursuing a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED); Associate Degree; Baccalaureate Degree; Graduate Degree or Professional Degree. General Information: Students are paid according to their job classification accruing annual and sick leave while they work.

SCEP – Provides experience directly related to the student’s educational program and career goals. Appointed students may continue on the appointment for 120 days beyond the date of completing their academic requirements. If the graduate has not been converted to a position in the competitive service, he/she must be separated.

STEP – Appointments to the program do not have to be related to the student’s academic/career goals. Once a degree is received the student must be separated. 

Program Limitations: Program used for temporary and intermittent service to meet the needs of the agency and the students’ schedule. 

Application Procedures: Recruitment coordinated through the Aberdeen Proving Ground Civilian Personnel Advisory Center, MD in response to specific agency/organization’s need.

4. Program: Career Related Experience in Science and Technology (CREST)

Requirements: Undergraduates and graduate students with majors in engineering, mathematics and computer science.

Program Limitations: Presently the program is unfunded; no applications are being accepted.

Application Procedures: Recruitment is initiated by Major Subordinate Commands (MSCs) such as US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Edgewood Area, MD.

5. Program: Army Civilian Training, Education, and Development System Intern Program

Requirements: College graduates with a BA/BS and an overall average of 3.0 GPA. Target audience are computer specialists; contracting and acquisition specialists; operations research analysts; quality and reliability assurance; comptroller; technical writer/editor; communications and engineering disciplines.

Program Limitations: Applicants sought based on need and funding availability. 

Application Procedures: Recruitment is initiated by Major Subordinate Commands such as US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Edgewood Area, MD.

6. Program: Federal Career Intern Program

Requirements: College graduates with a minimum of a BA/BS in engineering, mathematics, English, business, science, and computer science. Applicants must have an overall average of 3.0 GPA.

Program Limitations: Applicants sought based on need and funding availability by any APG activity.

Application Procedures: Recruitment initiated by the activity in need. Most applicants come from college recruitment visits.
