Chief Master Sergeant Johnny W. Smith is the Wing Command Chief Master Sergeant, 161st Air Refueling Wing, Phoenix, Arizona. In this capacity he is the senior enlisted leader who advises the commander on all enlisted matters, including those that affect mission, readiness, training, morale, technical and professional development. He is also the functional manager for the unit's First Sergeants.

Chief Smith is a graduate of Cleary University and a native of Michigan who enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1983. He transferred to the Michigan Air National Guard in 1993 and finally to the Arizona Air National Guard in 1998. Upon his transfer to the 161st Air Refueling Wing, Chief Smith devoted himself to supporting the 161st Civil Engineering Squadron until 2006.
His career positions have included: Security Forces, Civil Engineering Emergency Management, and Human Resource Advisor. Prior to his appointment as Command Chief Master Sergeant, he served as the Wing and State Human Resource Advisor. In this capacity, he was the advisor to the Commander, Arizona Air National Guard on diversity, mentoring, and other matters that affect unit member morale and readiness.
