Mission

Identify unlawful penetrators of cleared U.S. defense industry and articulate the threat for industry and U.S. government leaders.

With that mission in mind, the CI Directorate's premier publication, Targeting U.S. Technologies: A Trend Analysis of Reporting from Defense Industry, analyzes suspicious contact reports (SCRs) from across the DIB describing suspicious foreign activity targeting U.S. personnel, technologies, and export-controlled products.

(10/19/11) The DSS Counterintelligence Directorate has released the unclassified publication, "Targeting U.S. Technologies: A Trend Analysis Reporting from Defense Industry." This report analyzes suspicious contact reports received from defense industry in fiscal year 2010. (8/18/11) "Scarlet Sentinel" release update
Due to security concerns, the DSS Counterintelligence Directorate's quarterly open source publication, the "Scarlet Sentinel," will no longer be disseminated via email. If you receive this publication via email, please do not open it. Beginning with the next quarterly iteration scheduled for release in October 2011, the Scarlet Sentinel will be available on the DSS Information Sharing Portal hosted by the Homeland Security Information Network. Details about the DSS Information Sharing portal and establishing an account will be provided at a later date.

(7/22/11) DSS CI released the fourth quarter classified trends publication Targeting U.S. Technologies: A Trend Analysis of Cyber Reporting from Defense Industry. This report analyzes cyber-related suspicious contact reports received from defense industry in 2010. It is available on the DSS SIPRNET web site https://www.dss.smil.mil or from your servicing Field Counterintelligence Specialist.

(5/4/11) DSS Counterintelligence Directorate offers new classified monthly product:
On April 29, 2011, DSS CI released a new monthly classified report, "The Crimson Shield," which documents significant counterintelligence, intelligence, and security-related issues relevant to the cleared contractor community. This document is available on the DSS SIPRNET web site https://www.dss.smil.mil or from your servicing field counterintelligence specialist on a monthly basis.

(4/6/11) DSS Counterintelligence Directorate Announces Publication of a classified Special Focus Report on the use of Student Requests to Obtain Information from Cleared Industry DSS CI released a special classified focus report on foreign collectors using student requests to target information and technology. This report is part of DSS CI Targeting U.S. Technologies: A Trend Analysis of Reporting from Defense Industry franchise and is available on the DSS SIPRNET web site https://www.dss.smil.mil or from your servicing Field Counterintelligence Specialist (FCIS).
