Officer appointed to investigate downed CH-47

MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (Aug. 9, 2011) — U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. James N. Mattis has appointed U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Colt, Deputy Commanding General, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash of a CH-47 helicopter in Wardak Province, Afghanistan on 6 August.

General John R. Allen Assumes Command of ISAF

Petraeus at a change of command ceremony today, attended by senior Afghan and NATO officials, including German Army Gen. Wolf Langheld, Commander, Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum; Adm. Mike Mullen, U.S. Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff; and Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis, Commander, U.S. Central Command.
