Interoperability Tools Development

To ensure interoperability, the Biometrics Identity Management Agency (BIMA) is developing unique biometrics conformance testing and image quality measurement tools based on standardized testing methodologies. In February 2006, the BIMA completed and publicly released the BioAPI CTS (first USG conformance testing tool). Currently, the BIMA has developed and continues to modify its biometrics image quality measurement algorithms and tools driven by the operational needs and requirements of the DoD. The quality of biometrics samples can be used to predict the accuracy of matching. The development of quality algorithms and working prototype tools for fingerprint and facial images is complete. An extensive testing and evaluation process for each algorithm and tool is underway. Both tools are vendor-agnostic, suitable for use with any matching system and can be integrated with biometrics enrollment applications.

To obtain the quality measurement tools, you must be a U.S. government or military employee, or capable of providing a valid U.S. government or military sponsor. BioAPI is freely available to the public for download.
