Promise continues with third summit

"Keeping the Promise by Empowering Families," a summit focused on families with special needs will provide an Information Fair with service provider displays, a focus session and a behavior management training session March 15 at The Landing.
"This is our third year," said Tammy Custer, EMFP - Family Support specialist. The summit will start with a focus group from 9 am. to 10 a.m. gathering feedback on barriers and gaps in services. An RSVP is requested so that organizers have an idea of how many will be attending this session.
The Information Fair and displays will open after the focus group at 10 a.m. and continue through 2 p.m. Col. Don Hickman, 75th Air Base Wing activing vice commander, will be on hand to welcome families and agencies to the event.
A behavior management class, "Taming the Lion without the Whip," will be offered from noon to 2 p.m. An RSVP is required for the class as seating is limited.
No RSVP is required for the Information Fair and there is no charge for attendance, but if you would like lunch, it will be provided free for the first 200 to RSVP.
Custer is excited about the summit. "We are on track to have 80-plus service agencies for the Information Fair," said Custer. "We have many new service agencies this year that we did not have at the first two summits; so even families who have attended in the past will have a chance to explore fresh ideas."
There will be agencies there covering all facets of special needs; special education, adaptive equipment, recreation, behavioral health and transition services just to name a few. The agencies are there to answer questions, offer information and give families choices. Custer stated, "We will have many new agencies like AMBACS who will bring AmTrykes for folks to check out as well as regulars like Canine Companions who will bring service dogs for all to enjoy. They are always a popular agency to visit."
This event is open to active duty, retirees, Guard, Reservists, Team Hill civilians and family members.
No RSVP is required for the Information Fair and there is no charge for attendance.
Hill's Special Needs Team, which consists of EFMP-FS, SLO, EFMP-M and the Family Support 360 Project have welcomed Hollen Partington to their team. She has eagerly stepped into the role as Family Support 360 navigator. She has been actively involved in the summit and has supported the team in their coordinated efforts.
