Mr. William Brazis, Director of Washington Headquarters Services

William (Bill) E. Brazis has devoted nearly 30 years of service to our Nation. He began as a Presidential Management Intern and has since served in a variety of key leadership capacities in the Department of Defense - including as a financial manager, as an attorney and now as the director of a complex headquarters component of DoD. He was appointed to his current dual positions in 2010, and has served in senior executive level positions since 1999.

As Director of Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), a field activity of DoD, he provides critical and wide-ranging services to OSD, the Joint Staff, Military Departments, Defense Agencies, Congress, and the White House. Managing a total budget of nearly $1.2 Billion annually, Bill leads nearly 2,500 civilian, military and contractor personnel in providing a full range of facilities, security, information technology, communications, human resources, contracting and financial services that support nearly 100,000 DoD personnel. These services are provided at the Pentagon, the National Capital Region and beyond.

As Deputy Director, Administration and Management, Mr. Brazis serves the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, DA&M Staff, and OSD staff in directing and supporting the organization and management of the Department of Defense. He is a key advisor and leader in resource management, personnel management, and operations in the Pentagon. He also oversees security and communications for senior DoD officials, and emergency management and force protection for the Pentagon and other key sensitive DoD facilities.

Before he was appointed Director, Bill served as the General Counsel of both the Washington Headquarters Services and the Pentagon Force Protection Agency. In this capacity he provided a full range of hands-on legal services, management support and legal counsel for the senior leaders of the Department.

Mr. Brazis previously practiced with the law firm of Frank, Bernstein, Conaway & Goldman in Baltimore.

Bill earned his Juris Doctorate, with honors, from the University of Maryland School of Law; Masters of Public Administration from the University of Delaware; and BA from McDaniel College. Mr. Brazis has received numerous awards, including being twice awarded the Secretary of Defense Medal for Meritorious Service in 2001 and 2011.

Bill and his wife Pamela have two grown sons. He has been a longtime volunteer in the community and an active leader of DreamBuilders of Maryland, a robust inter-faith organization that builds homes for those in need across the U.S. and abroad.
