EUCOM Deputy Commander retires, Chief of Staff promotes
STUTTGART, Germany -- Army Lt. Gen. John D. Garner, U.S. European Command Deputy Commander, retired during a ceremony here Monday as Vice Admiral Charles W. Martoglio, EUCOM Chief of Staff, was promoted and assumed Deputy Commander responsibilities.
Gardner, a 1976 West Point Graduate, served in a variety of positions and locations during his 36-year military career, and since 2007 in Germany at U.S. Army Europe and at EUCOM.
Martoglio serves as the 25th deputy commander for EUCOM, which will celebrate its 60th anniversary as a command in August.
Admiral James Stavridis, EUCOM Commander and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, presided over the ceremony. Also in attendance was Army General Raymond Odierno, U.S. Army Chief of Staff.
