El Paso awarded $400K Grant to Make Improvements at the Bridge of the Americas

Washington, D.C., Aug 3 - Today, Congressman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will award the City of El Paso a $400,000 federal grant to be used for improvements at the Bridge of the Americas.

The project will facilitate new configurations to accommodate the existing traffic around the port of entry and reduce environmental and safety impacts associated with the future increased vehicular traffic. Changes include new signage, new truck lanes, barricades, and other elements.

“This grant comes at a critical time for El Paso, and will help improve the traffic flow at the Bridge of the Americas, in addition to minimizing the environmental impact,” said Congressman Reyes. “While there is certainly much more work needed to solve the long wait times at our bridges, this is a step in the right direction.”

The U.S. Department of Transportation serves the United States by ensuring a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life of the American people, today and into the future.
