100th Overdue Military Medal Recipient

Irving, Texas, Aug 17, 2010 -

U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) celebrated his office's 100th recipient of overdue military medals on Aug. 17th by presenting Jennifer Wood of Grapevine with her late father Charles A. White's service medals.

Charles A. White served in the United States Army during World War II where he underwent heavy fighting near Nieffern, France which earned him the Silver Star – the third-highest military decoration that can be awarded to a member of the United States armed forces. Congressman Marchant’s staff worked to obtain the medal now in the possession of White’s daughter. The citation for White’s Silver Star noted his medal was given for bravery and dedication when he voluntarily repaired a communications line while undergoing enemy machine gun fire.

Accompanied by family and close friends, Wood received her father’s six overdue awards from Congressman Marchant in a framed shadow box. In addition to the Silver Star medal, the box displays White’s Bronze Star medal, World War II Victory medal, Combat Infantryman badge and Honorable Service Lapel button.

"It was an honor to present Jennifer with her father’s distinguished service medals as our 100th recipient," said Congressman Marchant. "Charles fought bravely for our country. Now, his family will be able to pass on to their children and grandchildren his hard-earned medals and the stories of his courage and heroism."

Drafted on January 31, 1944, White was deployed to Europe to serve with Company I 410th Infantry Regiment of the 103rd Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged from the Army following the war and became a farmer, husband, and father of five. White passed away in July 1998.

Upon being elected in to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004, Marchant began assisting veterans to uncover any unrecognized or yet-to-be received service medals. If you are a veteran or know of one in Congressional District 24 who has earned awards for their military service but not yet received recognition, please contact John Hayes in Congressman Marchant’s Irving office at (972) 556-0162.
