National, State Leaders to Discuss Opportunities to Improve Health and Prosperity of Local Communities

DALLAS— Innovative ways in which community development and health resources are being used to create healthier, more economically, productive communities is the focus of a Sept. 28 conference in Houston hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

“Healthy Communities:  The Intersection of Community Development and Health,” will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Dallas Fed’s Houston Branch, 1801 Allen Parkway. 

 “The event will highlight opportunities for collaboration between sectors that don’t typically work together but share the common goals of reducing health disparities and creating healthier, more prosperous communities,” said Alfreda B. Norman, Dallas Fed vice president and community affairs officer.

The conference is aimed at representatives from community and economic development organizations, public health and health care organizations, financial institutions, governments, foundations and academia. 

Speakers include:  David Lakey, commissioner, Texas Department of State Health Services; Richard Wainerdi, president and CEO, Texas Medical Center; Janie  Barrera, president and CEO, ACCION Texas–Louisiana; and David Williams, professor, Harvard University.
