This section of MyPlate.gov is designed for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It has advice you need to help you and your baby stay healthy.

Pregnancy & Childbirth: A Goal-Oriented Guide to Childbirth
Known as "The Purple Book," this 232-page guide is designed primarily for pregnant women but is also a useful tool for obstetric care providers. It provides quality information that can serve as a reference, guide, journal, and springboard for further discussion.

Smoking/Tobacco Cessation Resources:

    • Quit Tobacco. Make Everybody Proud
      This web site helps U.S. service members quit tobacco for themselves and for the people they love.
    • Become an Ex: Pregnant Smokers
      A free quit smoking program that shows you a whole new way to think about quitting. It's based on personal experiences from ex-smokers as well as the latest scientific research.
    • What Works to Quit?
      A guide to quit smoking offered from the National Tobacco Cessation Collaborative.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program (Stateside)
WIC provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Overseas Program
DoD's WIC Overseas Program provides for nutritious food, health screenings, and access to other resources to eligible participants living overseas.

Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine
A worldwide organization of physicians dedicated to the promotion, protection and support of breastfeeding.

International Lactation Consultant Association
A professional association for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and other health care professionals who care for breastfeeding families.
