TRICARE Standard Options

If you are eligible for the Transitional Assistance Management Program (TAMP) and do not live in an area in which a Prime program is offered or if you choose not to enroll in a Prime program, you will be covered by TRICARE Standard and Extra or TRICARE Standard Overseas depending on where you live.

There is no enrollment required, and you're automatically covered by either of these options when the TAMP period begins.

TRICARE Standard and Extra
When using TRICARE Standard and Extra, you may visit any TRICARE-authorized provider, network or non-network.  Care at military treatment facilities is available on a space-available basis only. You do not need a referral for any type of care but some services may require prior authorization.

The type of provider you see determines which option you are using and how much you'll pay out-of-pocket. If visiting a non-network provider, you're using the Standard option. If you're visiting a network provider, you're using the Extra option. If using the Extra option, you'll pay less out of pocket and the provider will file claims for you. >>Learn More

TRICARE Standard Overseas
When using TRICARE Standard Overseas, you may visit any host nation provider for care. You may seek care at a military treatment facility on a space-available basis only.  You do not need a referral for any type of care but some services may require prior authorization.  You may have to pay the provider in full when you receive care and file a claim with TRICARE for reimbursement. >>Learn More
