Chaplain interns get glimpse of medical ministry
Alain Carballeyra, 59th Dental Squadron, stereo lithography director, explains the stereo lithography process to a chaplain and chaplain candidate using a model which outlines the extremities of a tumor Aug. 11 at MacKown Dental Clinic, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. About 30 Air Force Reservists throughout the United States toured Wilford Hall Medical Center to get a glimpse of a military chaplain's role in medical ministry. The Reservists are part of the Air Force Chaplain Candidate Intensive Internship Program, which introduces candidates to a wide range of Air Force missions and opportunities for ministry. Wilford Hall conducts bone marrow registration drive
Ms. Kathy Jones, bone marrow transplant coordinator at Wilford Hall Medical Center (right), takes a cheek swab from Master Sgt. Chad Bailey, 369th Recruiting Group, Aug. 19 at the Gateway Hills Golf Course, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Sergeant Bailey registered as a donor during the WHMC bone marrow donor drive conducted throughout the day and his information was input into the Department of Defense database that matches donors with individuals needing transplants. Golf marathon promotes bone marrow donor registry

LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Despite the brutal heat in South Texas, two Air Force doctors will play 72 holes of golf Aug. 19 to raise awareness about the need for bone marrow transplant donors.

BRAC 2005 recommends (172 Med 10) the consolidation of Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) and Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio into one medical region with two integrated campuses known as San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC).
Brooke Army Medical Center will serve as a world-class health science center for inpatient and ambulatory care, consisting of Graduate Medical Education (GME) & training, a Level 1 Trauma Center, and the only American Burn Association verified Burn Center within the DoD. The facility will be known as SAMMC-North.
Wilford Hall Medical Center, SAMMC-South, will serve as a large, full-service ambulatory care center with selected medical and surgical outpatient specialties servicing a large beneficiary and trainee population. It will host a premier Eye Center of Excellence. |
