Federal Multi-Agency On-Site Industry Event - FED EXPO

Tampa Bay Minority Enterprise Development Week (MEDWeek) Conference

The largest federally sponsored event on minority enterprise development to enhance business opportunities while developing the tools for business growth. This event highlights the significant contributions made by minority businesses in the Tampa Bay surrounding areas and focuses on "empowering minority business leaders" to be key stakeholders in diversifying the economy. Mr. Andre J. Gudger, Director, DoD OSBP, will be the keynote speaker on Thursday, October 4, 2012.

NASA/KSC HUBZone Industry Day & EXPO 2012

The NASA/KSC HUBZone Industry Day and Expo (EXPO) is open to all businesses - HUBZone businesses are encouraged to participate. The event will feature approximately 175 business and government exhibits. Exhibitors include vendors from a variety of products and services. Representatives of NASA, the 45th Space Wing, prime contractors, and other Government agencies will be available to answer specific questions about doing business with their respective organizations. Counseling / matchmaking sessions will be available for those interested.

2012 National Small Business Federal Contracting Fall Conference

Proposed FAR Amendment to Affect Documenting Contractor Performance

DoD, GSA, and NASA are proposing to amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to provide Governmentwide standardized past performance evaluation factors and performance rating categories and require that past performance information be entered into the Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System (CPARS).

Justifying Sole-source Awards for Small Business Made Permanent

Regulatory officials recently announced a revision to the FAR. The revision requires an agency to make public the justification for an 8(a) small business sole-source contract prior to award if the amount exceeds $20 Million.

Secretary LaHood Announces DOT Mentor Protégé Pilot Program

On April 10, 2012 US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the launch of a DOT Mentor-Protégé Pilot Program during DOT’s Small Business Day. This pilot program was created to enhance the capability of minority and small business owners to successfully compete for and perform in federal procurement opportunities. The program was designed to assist small business owners to "compete for and perform in federal procurement opportunities."

Small Business Employment Grows Rapidly

The CBIZ Small Business Employment Index, which tracks hiring at companies with 300 or fewer employees, reported a 1.66 percent increase in March, the highest month-over-month increase since June 2010. The increase in hiring by small businesses implies a positive direction in the U.S. economy.
