The new health care bill allows adult children to stay on their parent’s health care plan until age 26 if their employers don’t offer insurance. Does TRICARE offer this same coverage?
The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011 authorized extended dependent medical coverage up to age 26 via a premium-based program. TRICARE named this the TRICARE Young Adult Program (TYA). TYA is an option for unmarried, adult children who have "aged out" of regular TRICARE coverage and are not eligible for health care under their employer. It provides medical and pharmacy benefits through two different health plan options (dental is not covered).
