TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery

The TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery is your least expensive option when not using the military pharmacy and it's safe, convenient and easy to use even when you're traveling on a temporary assignment or if you move.

  • Get up to a 90-day supply for most medications
  • Request refills by mail, phone or online
  • Recommended for prescriptions you take on a regular basis

You can have your prescriptions sent to any address in the U.S. and U.S. Territories, including temporary and APO/FPO addresses.

  • If you are assigned to an embassy and do not have an APO/FPO address, you must use the embassy address.
  • Prescriptions cannot be mailed to private foreign addresses.
  • Refrigerated medications cannot be shipped to APO/FPO addresses.
Important Information about Using Home Delivery Overseas

Home delivery to APO/FPO addresses is subject to local laws. There is a chance that prescription medications sent to APO/FPO addresses may be seized by local nation customs authorities.

For example, German customs officials are enforcing legal restrictions on imported items, including prescription drugs being sent there through the APO/FPO system. >>View Germany Home Delivery Pharmacy Spot

If your prescription medications are seized, contact Express Scripts customer service at 1-877-363-1303 or at one of the country-specific phone numbers listed on the Express Scripts contact page to discuss other ways to get your prescription.

If you are currently getting your prescription medications through TRICARE Home Delivery outside of U.S. Territories overseas, please consider alternative means to fill your prescriptions. These include getting them from the nearest military treatment facility or from a host nation pharmacy. If you purchase them from a local pharmacy, you must pay for them up front and file a TRICARE claim.

Home Delivery Checklist
More than 97% of prescriptions filled via home delivery are delivered in less than a week's time, but there are times when your prescription cannot be filled because clarification is needed from you or your physician.

In these cases, Express Scripts will contact you or your physician directly, but if those calls go unanswered within two business days, the prescription cannot be filled. Express Scripts will send you a letter explaining why the prescription was not filled, and in some cases, the prescription is returned.

While this doesn't happen often, there are a few simple things you can do to avoid complications:

  • Ask your provider to e-prescribe your medications. Electronic prescriptions are less likely to have missing or illegible elements.
  • When sending your prescription through the mail, write the patient's name, sponsor ID number and patient's birth date clearly on the back of the prescription.
  • If Express Scripts contacts you about your prescription, call them back within two business days. Customer service representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Only prescriptions covered by TRICARE can be filled via home delivery. When a medication is not covered, Express Scripts sends a letter and your prescription is returned.  If you have a new prescription and you're not sure if it is covered, call Express Scripts at 1-877-363-1303 or search the TRICARE formulary online.

If you feel your prescription has been returned or denied in error, please call 1-877-363-1303. A Patient Care Advocate will be able to answer your questions and assist you with resolution.

Converting Retail Prescriptions to Home Delivery
If you're already having prescriptions filled at a TRICARE retail network pharmacy, and you'd like to switch to home delivery, you can quickly and easily convert your prescriptions to home delivery in about 4-7 minutes.
