I was proud to deliver the keynote speech at the Society of American Foresters National Convention in Spokane today. I talked about my work to improve federal land management policies and issues specific to the Colville National Forest. I...t is no coincidence that many of the counties with the highest unemployment rates in America are those which are surrounded by federal forests. It is time to put our people back to work, which in this case means putting our land back to work.See MoreCathy McMorris Rodgers shared a link.
I'm so proud that Spokane has taken the lead to "THINK PINK!" in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer has touched all of our lives in some way -- and I am proud that Eastern Washington is doing so much to spread awareness. In case you missed it, please check out the latest Human Events article about my work to bring transparency and accountability to U.S. funding to the IMF for the European bailouts..."I am concerned by Madame LaGarde’s suggestion that we sho...uld renegotiate the bailout agreements that Greece and other European countries voluntarily agreed to, accepting literally hundreds of billions of bailout dollars from other countries, including the United States."See MoreCathy McMorris Rodgers shared a link.
This week is “National Forest Products Week." Too bad the policies advanced by this Administration have resulted in less productive forests, less logging, and made the economic recovery in our timber communities worse.- This weekend, my staff attended the first-ever Veterans Will Clinic at Gonzaga University School of Law. The Clinic was put together by the Law School and Army OneSource and provided free wills for over 90 of our veterans. Also helping was the American Red Cross, Spokane Vet Center, the Young Lawyers of the Spokane County Bar Association, and the Veterans Cemetery. Keep an eye out for the Clinic again next year!
- Today I remember an influential mentor, counselor and my former staffer, Charlotte Karling. May we carry her beautiful legacy of kindness, compassion and service in our hearts forever.
- On Saturday, October 13, 2012, a good friend of mine was laid to rest. Charlotte Karling was a very special person in this community. She touched so very many lives here in Eastern Washington. Charlotte you will be missed.

I am proud to accept the Washington Farm Bureau's annual "Friend of Farm Bureau Award." As someone who grew up on a family farm, and with agriculture being Eastern Washington's number one industry, I will continue to fight hard every day for our farmers and ranchers and for our entire community.- I'm excited to announce that the Spokane VA Medical Center was named one of the top 19 VA medical facilities in the country by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This recognition was based on outstanding evidence-based care and positive patient outcomes. I'm so proud of the phenomenal work the Spokane VA is doing to take care of our veterans! Thank you for all that you do!

What an honor it was to receive Retire Safe's "Standing Up for America's Seniors Award" in Spokane today. As the debate about Medicare, Social Security and the future of entitlement programs continues, I assure you that I will continue to ...fight for seniors, their benefits, and their access to quality and affordable health care. http://mcmorris.house.gov/news-releases/rep-mcmorris-rodgers-receives-standing-up-for-americas-seniors-award-from-prominent-grassroots-organization/See More- After touring Caterpillar and Wear-Tek yesterday, I'm looking forward to another busy day in Eastern Washington - hosting a roundtable with employee-owned businesses, touring the Downtown Spokane Renal Center, receiving the Retire Safe Award for my work on behalf of seniors, and meeting with local veterans, among other things. - It was an honor to receive the "Health Care Champion" Award from the Washington State Hospital Association and the American Hospital Association at St. Luke's today. It represents something I care very deeply about: ensuring that America remains the #1 provider of health care in the world.
- So proud to join Senator Cantwell and others for the official ribbon cutting for a major phase of the North South Freeway! The completion of this project is a result of a $35 million grant from the US Department of Transportation. I'm so proud that Spokane is the home of innovation, advancement and job creation!
