USDA is calling on mobile app developers to participate in the Drought Code Sprint.

Apps will use available government information to help farmers, ranchers, and others to gain quick and reliable "one-click" access to information on drought conditions and Federal drought relief.

Submit your app by October 5, 2012 and we'll highlight some of the submissions on the USDA Drought web pages.

UPDATE: The Drought Code Sprint deadline has been extended to Wednesday, October 24 2012 at 5PM: https://blogs.usda.gov/2012/09/27/update-drought-code-sprint-deadline-extended-to-october-24/

Protecting and Enhancing our Natural Resources

NRCS offers easement programs to landowners who want to maintain or enhance their land in a way beneficial to agriculture and/or the environment. All NRCS easement programs are voluntary. We provide technical help and financial assistance, but local landowners and organizations are needed to make NRCS easement programs successful.

Our easement programs include the following:

Arizona Farmland in Cochise County

The Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program (FRPP) helps purchase development rights to keep productive farm and ranchland in agricultural uses.

Grassland in Missouri protected with help of the Grassland Reserve Program

The Grasslands Reserve Program (GRP) protects, restores, and enhances grassland, including rangeland, pastureland, shrubland, and certain other lands.

Forestland in Washington

The Healthy Forests Reserve Program (HFRP) assists landowners in restoring, enhancing and protecting forestland resources on private lands

Nebraska WRP project

The Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) protects, restores, and enhances wetlands. Achieving the greatest wetland functions and optimum wildlife habitat on every acre enrolled in WRP is the goal.
