Dec. 23, 1913 | Federal Reserve Act signed by President Woodrow Wilson creates the Federal Reserve. |
Nov. 16, 1914 | Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City opens for business at the R.A. Long Building at 10th and Grand streets. |
July 1918 | We purchase land at 925 Grand Blvd. |
May 1920 | Construction begins our Kansas City headquarters. |
Nov. 1921 | We move into our new $4.3 million facility. The building is 367,000 square feet. Outside tenants begin renting space in the building a year later. |
1967 | An onsite parking garage with 460 spaces and 56,200 square feet of office space, security and freight docks are constructed along McGee Street. |
1969 | We purchase space north of the building for use as a messenger lot. |
Early 1970s | We stop leasing space in the building to outside tenants. |
1976 | Our staff move into an annex building at 915 Grand Blvd., which provides an additional 28,300 square feet. |
1979 | A surface parking lot along McGee Street is purchased for employee parking, adding 50 parking spaces. |
1989 | We begin leasing 200 to 325 parking spaces one block south of the building for employee use. |
2000 | We move 175 employees to 42,000 square feet of leased office space and related leased parking space at One Kansas City Place. |
2001 | Additional staff are relocated to leased office space nearby. |
Jan. 2002 | We announce we're working on a new headquarters project. |
Dec. 2002 | We receive approval from Board of Governors to continue planning on the project. |
May 2003 | We select Pei Cobb Freed & Partners as the facility designers. Ellerbe Becket will also work on the project. |
June 2003 | The Board of Governors approves the purchase of a 15-acre building site at 28th and Main Streets in downtown Kansas City. |
Spring 2005 | Our ground breaking. |
Fall 2005 | Construction begins. |
June 2008 | We move to new downtown headquarters at 28th and Main Streets. |
