Big decisions and reviews aplenty

October 29, 2011 by Jeff Rider

So you want to review video games, huh? I’m not going to lie — it’s a great gig most of the time. But then there are times like this weekend, when I find myself facing a rather difficult decision.

Thursday, my review copy of “Saints Row: The Third” was waiting for me when I arrived at the office. Friday, I showed up to find “Uncharted 3,” “Lord of the Rings: War in the North” and, yes, “The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.” My problem now is trying to decide which of these epic games to play first.

OK, so it’s not exactly a terrible problem to have. But I’m torn, nonetheless. I’ve already put a few hours into both “Saints Row” and “Skyrim,” but a few hours barely scratches the surface of those games. “Saints Row: The Third” has been a riot thus far. I’m a huge Tolkien fan, so I’m excited to see “War in the North,” and I already know “Uncharted 3″ is going to be something special, but I have been unable to tear myself away from “Skyrim.”

I had to force myself to turn off my Xbox this morning at 3:30 a.m. after a night of poking around the unexplored wilds in Bethesda’s epic RPG, and I can’t wait to jump back into “Skyrim” later tonight. I can’t say too much because reviews are embargoed until Nov. 10 and I’ve seen only a fraction of what the game has to offer, but so far, so good.

On to games that I can, and have, talked about. Click here to visit the Video Games section of wvgazette.com and check out my reviews of “Spider-Man: Edge of Time,” “Forza Motorsport 4,” “Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One,” “Batman: Arkham City,” “Dance Central 2,” “Kinect Sports: Season Two” and more.

That’s all for now. I have some dragons to slay…

‘Resistance 3′ reviewed and more

September 29, 2011 by Jeff Rider

OK, so business has officially picked up at Plugged In HQ. I finally wrapped up “Resistance 3″ and posted my review, which you can read here. I’ve also received my review copy of “Rage” and am just beginning to tear into that gem.

”FIFA 12″ should be here today and I’m hoping to see “NBA 2K12″ and “X-Men: Destiny” before the weekend. And then there’s the “Battlefield 3″ demo and “Batman: Arkham City” is just around the corner.

It’s official — I may not see the sun again until after Christmas.

Just when I thought I was out…

September 15, 2011 by Jeff Rider

…They pull me back in. OK, so maybe the “they” in question here is really me, but you get the point.

It’s been quite some time since I posted an update the ol’ Plugged In blog, but that doesn’t mean I’ve been slacking off on giving you quality video game reviews. In fact, staying away from the blog has allowed me more time to play and review more games than ever before. Shoot, I even started a YouTube channel since my last visit.

But a funny thing happened on the way to leaving this blog in the past. I realize now that I need it. Sure, it’s another way to promote my reviews elsewhere on the Gazette web site. And Lord knows I’m not above some shameless self-promotion.

More importantly, though, it allows me the opportunity to not only keep you, the readers, up on the latest gaming news, but also to share my views and opinions. And I’ve got plenty of those to go around.

So expect to see this space become a little more active in the coming days and weeks. The fall is the busiest time of year in the gaming industry, and I’ll do my best to cover it all for you. So feel free to post a comment or make a suggestion. I look forward to seeing if anyone is still listening out there …
