Bob Burns's instrument looks more like a Panzerfaust rather than a Bazooka.

well, i guess if the tube was long enough and there was a shield, sort of like the blindicide . its rocket seems to have left a blast of hot gas behind it. i saw the launcher the confederates used for it and it was quite long. never know. the docent at the museum mused over the possiblities.

You wouldn't want a Congrave-type rocket launching from your shoulder. Not if you planned to retain your face, anyway.

Most people forget that the innovative idea behind the Bazooka, was the use of an extremely high-impulse (almost explosive) rocket motor, that burned out before reaching the end of the tube.

Note the terrific smoke and fire blast out the back of the weapon upon firing, but no smoke-trail from the projectile in flight.

back during the civil war someone put a congrave type rocket in a tube for short range bombardment. it had a bipod so they could sit it on the ground and fire it. if someone had the idea of laying it on their shoulder and firing horizontally the first bazooka would have been invented almost 80 years earlier.

Dude: I thought I fabricated myself a slide-vuvuzela here out of two pieces of PVC piping and a plastic bottle, but it turns out it looks a lot more likt a hundred year old instrument which had a rocket launcher named after it. That's definately an improvement. What I don't really get is why in this original design the inner pipe is on the far side, it's much easier to put the outer pipe on the far side, you don't need such a funny handle to play the thing.

I've been trying to see what the bazooka(instrument)actually looked like. I should have known it would be unspectacular. Still funny, though.
