2010 Census

2010 Census Summary File 1 — This file provides a number of detailed tables from the 2010 Census on age, sex, households, families, relationship to householder, housing units, detailed race and Hispanic or Latino origin groups and group quarters. Most tables are shown down to the block or census tract level. Summary File 1 is the first 2010 Census release to include statistics for ZIP code tabulation areas. Tables cover states, counties, county subdivisions, places, census tracts, congressional districts for the 111th Congress and, where applicable, American Indian and Alaska Native areas and Hawaiian home lands. Some tables are repeated for nine race and Hispanic or Latino origin groups. The statistics are being released on a state-by-state flow basis for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. (Released mid-June through August.)

Island Areas Population Counts — The Census Bureau will release population counts for American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. A table will be released for each Island Area showing 2010 Census population counts and percent change from the 2000 Census. The table will include counts and the percent change for various levels of geography within each Island Area. A thematic map showing population change within the Island Area will also be released. (Scheduled for release late August or early September.)

2010 Census Demographic Profile: New Geographies — Additional lower-level geographies - including ZIP code tabulation areas, school districts and census tracts - will be released for the demographic profiles. The demographic profiles were released by state down to the place level in May and provide statistics on topics such as age, race, Hispanic origin, sex, household relationship, household type, group quarters population and home ownership. The profiles for these geographies will be available on an embargoed basis for accredited media who are registered for access on Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. The embargo will be lifted and the information released publicly on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 12:01 a.m. More information about the 2010 Census Demographic Profiles can be found at <http://2010.census.gov/news/press-kits/demographic-profiles.html>.

The White Population and The Black Population: 2010 — These two 2010 Census briefs provide a portrait of the white population and of the black population in the United States and discuss their distribution from the national level down to counties, metropolitan statistical areas and places. The reports discuss the size and growth of the white and of the black populations and analyze patterns by Hispanic origin. The briefs contain tables and figures (including maps) that display regional, state and county patterns.

Demographic

Marital Events of Americans: 2009 — This report examines marriage, divorce and widowhood in America as well as selected characteristics for those experiencing a marital event in the past year. Historically, data on marriages and divorces in the U.S. were collected by the National Center for Health Statistics, but this program was discontinued in 1996. In 2008, the Census Bureau added questions about marital events to the American Community Survey (ACS). This report is the first of its kind to describe the detailed characteristics of the marital events using data from the ACS. This release will be available on an embargoed basis for accredited media who are registered for access on Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. The embargo will be lifted and the information released publicly on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 12:01 a.m.)

Education and Synthetic Work-Life Earnings — This report uses 2006-2009 American Community Survey data to show the basic relationship between lifetime earnings and education. The report also shows the effect of race and gender and other characteristics with regard to this relationship. We expect to issue this release on an embargo basis. (Scheduled for release in August.)

Reported Voting and Registration by Race, Hispanic Origin, Sex and Age: November 2010 — These statistics compare the voting and registration patterns by demographic, social and demographic characteristics. (Scheduled for release in August.)

Economic

Annual Survey of Government Employment and Payroll: 2010 — This table package shows totals for state and local government full-time and part-time employment and detail employment by government function at the national and state level. (Scheduled for release in August.)

2009 Annual Survey of State and Locally Administered Public Employee Retirement Systems — These tables provide revenues, expenditures, financial assets and membership information for public employee retirement systems. Statistics are shown for individual retirement systems at the national, state and local government level. This survey provides current statistics about investment decisions by state and local government retirement systems, which are among the largest types of institutional investors in U.S. financial markets. (Scheduled for release in August.)

Economic Indicators — The Census Bureau releases statistics that provide monthly, quarterly and yearly updates on key measures of the nation's economic condition. Upcoming releases include new residential construction, new home sales and the advanced report on durable goods and manufacturers' shipments, inventories and orders. Current Industrial Reports (CIRs) — These statistics provide monthly, quarterly and annual measures of industrial activity. The 47 CIRs focus on groups of industries, such as textiles and apparel, chemicals, primary metals, computer and electronic components, industrial equipment and consumer goods and provide current and historical statistics on production and shipments of selected products. CIR statistics are used to satisfy economic policy needs and for market analysis, forecasting and decision-making in the private sector. Facts for Features

Grandparents Day (Sept. 11) — On this day intended to honor the nation's grandparents, the Census Bureau provides an array of demographic statistics about the role these caregivers play in the lives of our nation's youth. (Scheduled for release in August.)

Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) — During this monthlong observance, our nation celebrates the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Mexico, Spain and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The Census Bureau joins in the celebration with this fact sheet presenting a range of updated statistics describing the demographic state of the nation's Latino population, including new statistics from the 2010 Census and statistics on Hispanic-owned businesses. (Scheduled for release in August.)

Unmarried and Single Americans Week (Sept. 18-24) — The third full week of September recognizes the nation's unmarried Americans with an array of statistics about this group from the Census Bureau's demographic and economic subject areas. (Scheduled for release in August.)
