Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) issued the following statement on the eighth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001:

“Today, we as a nation commemorate the eighth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. This anniversary is yet again a sobering moment for our country and a reminder that we must always remember those who perished in this appalling act of violence.

“As we observe the eighth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, it is imperative that we remember the men, women and children whose lives were lost on this tragic and sad day.  We extend our deepest sympathies to their families, friends and loved ones, and we again honor the heroism and courage exhibited by the first responders – law enforcement personnel, volunteers and others – who risked their lives, and in many cases sacrificed their own lives, to help others.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to these first responders, and we must ensure that we repay their service and sacrifice by ensuring that those who were exposed to the toxic aftermath of these attacks receive the requisite health care to address their needs.”
