Banking Improvements, Challenges Detailed in Latest "ViewPoint"

ViewPoint logo The financial condition of banks in the Southeast has continued to improve, although many challenges remain, noted Atlanta Fed Senior Vice President Michael Johnson in the third quarter edition of "ViewPoint." Indeed, the challenges facing banks were one of several topics of discussion at a banker outreach forum hosted by the Atlanta Fed in August.

The latest installment of "ViewPoint," which appears quarterly in the Bank's Financial Update publication, includes highlights from the forum, as well as an overview of recently proposed rules under the Basel III capital framework. As Johnson noted in his introductory letter, the notices for proposed rulemaking, or NPRs, "represent the biggest change in regulatory capital calculations in the past 20 years for banks of all sizes."
