Partners in Community and Economic Development, a magazine published occasionally by Community and Economic Development at the Atlanta Fed, keeps financial institutions, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other practitioners abreast of the latest community development issues and trends.

Partners Update is an online newsletter addressing community and economic development trends, issues, and events. Updated continuously, it offers timely articles, research roundups, and links to podcasts created by the Atlanta Fed's Community and Economic Development group.

Consumer Information

Dollars and Cents: Fundamental Facts about U.S. Money provides historical information about U.S. money and describes the types and features of paper money and coins now in circulation. The booklet also tells how currency and coins are made, how money circulates, and how damaged money is redeemed. Also included are tips on how to spot a counterfeit bill and what to do if one comes into your possession. 2004. 20 pages.

A Guide to Your First Bank Account describes the advantages of having a bank account, outlining the types of accounts available and how to open and manage an account. The brochure also answers some basic questions about information security, privacy protection, and banking resources for non-English speakers. 2006.

Paying for It: Checks, Cash, and Electronic Payments provides information about the most common methods of making payments and describes the Federal Reserve's role in the nation's payment system. The document describes how checks and electronic payments work and discusses how currency is processed and distributed. 2006. Available only online.

Economic Research
Economic Review, a policy research journal, ceased publication with the final 2010 issue. Articles from 1996 through 2010 are available online. You may also request single print copies of back issues and articles. Future policy-related research from the Atlanta Fed will be published occasionally in a policy paper series.

EconSouth
The Atlanta Fed's quarterly magazine on the Southeastern economy was revamped in 2009 to incorporate a new design and content. In-depth stories explore topics relevant to the regional, national, and international economies. Regular features include "Grassroots," an economic profile of a midsize city in the Southeast; a Q&A with an industry or economic expert; and a "Fed@Issue" column. The most significant new feature is a section highlighting the work of the Atlanta Fed's Regional Economic Information Network (REIN). This section includes "Regional Update," examining a core economic sector; "On the Ground," an interview with one of the Atlanta Fed's five regional executives stationed across the Southeast; the D6 Factor, the Atlanta Fed's unique Southeastern economic indicator; "Data Corner," focused on a specific data series or indicator; summaries of regional university studies; and "Econ 101," a primer on an economic topic. Education Resources

Extra Credit is an online newsletter, posting articles six times a year, designed to help teachers looking for timely information on economic and personal finance topics, lesson plans, and ideas for use in the classroom. Each issue also includes a calendar of upcoming teacher workshops or other events sponsored by the Fed or its education partners. Available only online. RSS

Katrina's Classroom: Financial Lessons from a Hurricane is a free video-based curriculum designed to teach middle school and high school students and their parents the importance of being financially prepared. The curriculum focuses on financial responsibilities such as budgeting, banking, savings, and wise use of credit. The videos, an English/Spanish transcript, and lesson plans can be downloaded or ordered as a DVD/CD set.

The Federal Reserve
The Annual Report contains a photo essay highlighting the Bank's diverse and unique roles and functions. The report, published each April, also provides financial statements and lists of current directors and officers.

A History of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta: 1914-1989 provides a detailed review of the Bank's first 75 years. Through personal recollections and official bank records, author Richard H. Gamble recounts the Atlanta Fed's evolution in response to developments in the region, nation, and financial services industry. 1989. Available only online.

Federal Reserve Structure and Functions outlines the organizational structure of the Federal Reserve System and describes the Fed's major functions, including the formulation of monetary policy, bank supervision and regulation, and services to depository institutions and the federal government. The booklet also gives a short history of the Federal Reserve's evolution and explains the significance of central bank independence. 2006. 20 pages.
