David McDermitt has been named assistant vice president and information security officer for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, announced Dennis Lockhart, president and chief executive officer of the Atlanta Fed.
McDermitt joined the bank in 2011 and has led numerous efforts to identify and mitigate information security threats and vulnerabilities, recommending a range of innovative solutions.
Before joining the Atlanta Fed, McDermitt was assistant vice president and cybersecurity architect at SAIC Inc. He has more than 20 years of experience in information security.
McDermitt earned a bachelor of science degree in management information systems from Auburn University and a master of science degree in information technology management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta serves the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which encompasses Alabama, Florida, Georgia and sections of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. As part of the nation's central banking system, the Atlanta Fed participates in setting national monetary policy, supervises numerous commercial banks and provides a variety of financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government.
