LANCE STATEMENT REGARDING POSSIBLE FLORIDA QURAN-BURNING

WASHINGTON – Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) issued the following statement following reports that the small Florida church may suspend its plans to burn Qurans on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“I vigorously oppose the stated plans by a church in Florida to burn Qurans on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“The Quran, just like the Bible and other sacred religious documents, should not be burned in protest.

“I wholeheartedly share and support the concerns expressed by Defense Secretary Gates and General David Petraeus that this type of demonstration could cause ‘significant problems’ for U.S. troops serving overseas.

“As Americans we should condemn any action that would put America’s brave men and women fighting for freedom around the world in further danger.”
