WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-7) issued the following statement today in response to the last-minute budget deal.

“This week Congress will vote on a bipartisan agreement that includes the largest spending cut in history, keeps the government running and provides critical funding and certainty for our troops.  It will have my support.

“While I am pleased that leaders in Washington have come to a consensus on a continuing resolution to fund the government for the rest of this fiscal year, our work has just begun.  

“Spending and budget issues will continue to dominate the landscape as the House of Representatives focuses on the 2012 budget as well as reigning in federal debt and deficits. These issues will move the national conversation from billions of dollars to trillions of dollars. This debate will have the Nation's full attention.  

“It is my hope that we can build upon the recent spending consensus and work in a bipartisan fashion to bring a new era of fiscal responsibility to Washington.  We must continue to pursue fiscally responsible economic policies that will create jobs through lower taxes, less spending and less debt."
