LANCE HAILS ISRAEL'S 62ND ANNIVERSARY OF HER INDEPENDENCE DAY

Seventh District Lawmaker says America’s Commitment to Middle East Ally Should Never Waver

WASHINGTON – Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) announced today that he is cosponsoring an important House Resolution which recognizes the 62nd anniversary of the independence of America’s indispensable ally Israel and reaffirms Congress’s commitment to the U.S.-Israel relationship.

“Congratulations to the people on Israel on the 62nd anniversary of its independence,” said Lance. “This important anniversary presents an opportunity for America to reaffirm its strong friendship and deep commitment to the security of Israel and the Israeli people.”

Lance also urged President Obama to use Israel’s Independence Day as an opportunity to call for crippling sanctions against Iran in order to prevent its acquisition of nuclear weapons.

“There is not a better time for President Obama to increase diplomatic pressure against Iran including a call to Congress to pass more stringent sanctions against the regime in Tehran,” said Lance. “Iran’s efforts to develop a weapon of mass destruction poses an eminent threat to Israel, the entire region and the U.S. In my view, President Obama has not been tough enough on Iran and he must call for stronger sanctions against Iran for its continued defiance to citizens of goodwill from around the world.”

Since coming to Congress, Leonard Lance has been a strong supporter of the State of Israel. Having traveled to Israel and witnessed first-hand the daily threats Israelis face, Congressman Lance has consistently voted in favor of military and economic aid packages benefiting the State of Israel.

As co-chairman of the Republican Israel Caucus, Congressman Leonard Lance is tasked with promoting legislative initiatives important to Israel and pro-Israel Americans including recognizing Israel’s right to defend itself against attacks from Gaza, supporting Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel and relocating the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
