LANCE CALLS FOR ORAL ARGUMENT OF HEALTH CARE LAW TO BE TELEVISED LIVE

Seventh District Lawmaker Urges His House Colleagues To Join Him In Letter of Support

WASHINGTON– Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) is calling on his colleagues in the U.S. House to join him in a letter supporting C-SPAN's recent request to provide live televised coverage of the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court oral argument pertaining to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

“The constitutionality of the 2010 health care reform law is among the most important issues to come before the High Court in many years and the Court's decision will have significant consequences for the American people,” said Lance.  “It would be a fitting case for the Court’s first televised argument. And I hope my colleagues will join me in support of C-SPAN’s request and urge the Supreme Court to allow live televised broadcasting of the landmark case.”

On Nov. 15, 2011 C-SPAN Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brian P. Lamb wrote to Chief Justice Roberts requesting that C-SPAN be permitted to televise all five-and-one-half hours of oral argument live.  A broad coalition of news organizations has also requested that the Court permit televising the proceedings.

In his letter to Chief Justice Roberts the Seventh District lawmaker expressed support for C-SPAN's request writing, "We respectfully request that you and your colleagues allow live televised broadcasting of the landmark proceeding to determine the constitutionality of the health care law."
