LANCE ANNOUNCES 2012 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

FLEMINGTON, NJ — U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (NJ-7) today announced the guidelines for the 2012 Congressional Art Competition. The annual competition is open to all high school students who reside in New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District.

“Each and every year talented young artists throughout New Jersey’s Seventh District participate in this annual Congressional Art Competition displaying their creativity and hard work,” said Lance.  “This year's competition is an excellent opportunity for high school students from around the district to showcase their artistic abilities."

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each congressional district.

The art contest is free and open to all high school students’ grades 9 through 12 and who reside in the Seventh Congressional District of New Jersey. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. 

All artwork must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday,April 16, 2012 to one of Lance’s two district offices: 425 North Avenue East, Westfield, New Jersey 07090 or 23 Royal Road, Flemington, New Jersey 08822.

Winners will be announced on Saturday, April 28, 2012at a special ceremony held at Merck located at181 Passaic Avenuein Summit. The overall winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year with other winners from across the country.

Lance noted that last year’s winner was Lauren Gallagher, a Green Brook resident and student at Watchung Hills Regional High School.
