 Candlelight Vigil Honors Memory of CBP Officers Killed in the Line of Duty
(03/01/2012)Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Jane Holl Lute, acting CBP Assistant Commissioner Kevin McAleenan and employees of the Office of Field Operations attended a candlelight vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Tuesday evening. The event honors officers killed in the line of duty during the long history of securing America’s port of entry.Hosted by the National Treasury Employees Union, the event featured the reading of 113 names of officers killed during the long history of customs officers. NTEU President Colleen Kelly joined Lute and McAleenan in explaining the significance of the vigil. The three then read each of the 113 names, and a candle was lit for each.CBP’s chaplain, Joshua Shorr, provided an invocation and the CBP Ceremonial Honor Guard presented colors. The vigil is held annually. |
