On Monday, January 9 and Wednesday, January 11, Secretary Adams and top officials from the Department, along with Senator William Haine, took testimony from residents, credit counselors, and legal service providers about the troubling trend of debtors being incarcerated after being sued to collect on past-due installment loan balances, unpaid hospital bills, and other uncollected debts owed to Illinois lenders and creditors.
