GROUND BEEF RECALLED BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE BACTERIAL CONTAMINATION
The products were produced Sept. 12 and distributed to local restaurants. Their packaging bears Stewart Brothers' establishment number of 447 inside an Illinois seal of inspection and was stamped with a code of 255 or 256.

IDOA AWARDED SPECIALTY CROP GRANT FUNDS
Funds will expand the availability of fresh, locally-grown produce and strengthen state's farm economy

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has been awarded nearly $634,000 through the United States Department of Agriculture's Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. The agency will split the funds between 12 projects that are intended to expand the availability of fresh, locally-grown produce and strengthen the state's specialty crop industry.
DROUGHT UPDATE
The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) has obtained a waiver from the federal prohibition against blending aflatoxin-contaminated corn. A copy of the approval letter and a Certificate of Compliance that must be completed and signed in order to blend corn are provided. The department also is an active participant on the Drought Response Task Force (see drought.illinois.gov).

Included are the 2012 corn aflatoxin, 2012 corn fumonisin, 2011 corn aflatoxin, 2011 corn fumonisin, 2011 corn vomitoxin, 2011 wheat vomitoxin, 2010 corn aflatoxin, 2010 corn fumonisin, and 2010 corn vomitoxin maps. Also included is the letter sent to all feed mills in Illinois.

Contacts made on the Illinois Grain Tour may pay immediate dividends for Illinois agribusinesses.  The foreign buyers who took part in the five-day trade mission are projecting purchases of more than $52 million from these businesses in the next year.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) today confirmed infestations of the emerald ash borer (EAB) in Lee and Henry counties.
ILLINOIS ESTABLISHMENT RECALLS UNINSPECTED TAMALES
A Chicago food company has voluntarily recalled 2,970 pounds of tamales. Meca Foods, the manufacturer of La Tia Tamales, issued the recall because the product was produced in a facility that is not state inspected.

23 international grain buyers scheduled to arrive Monday for tour of the state's grain industry

Participants will see firsthand Illinois' state-of-the-art grain production, handling and storage techniques and learn about trade opportunities with the state's producers and suppliers.
ILLINOIS STATE FAIR ATTENDANCE INCREASES 13 PERCENT; HIGHEST IN 10 YEARS
According to newly released figures from state fair officials, 918,875 people passed through the gates during the fair, which is 103,275 more than a year ago and the most since 2002.

The Buy Illinois Challenge encourages every Illinois household to dedicate $10 of their weekly grocery budget to the purchase of Illinois products.  If every household made this pledge, it would generate more than $2.4 billion a year for the Illinois economy.  Residents can go online at http://www.buyillinoischallenge.com/ to take the pledge today.

By utilizing this private, non-profit association, DOA is positioned to increase international exports in addition to the state-sponsored Food Export activities.
